IN PRACTICE
Sustainability in Action
Sustainability at Rumi on Louth is embedded in the way we design, operate and host. Our approach focuses on reducing environmental impact, protecting the island’s natural ecosystems and creating meaningful experiences that respect place, people and wildlife.
Renewable Energy & Off-Grid Systems
Rumi on Louth operates entirely off-grid, powered by a large-scale on-island solar energy system with battery storage. This self-sufficient renewable energy infrastructure allows us to minimise reliance on fossil fuels while maintaining a high standard of comfort for guests.
Water & Resource Management
Fresh water on the island is generated through on-site desalination and carefully managed to reduce waste. Low-flow fixtures, mindful consumption and ongoing monitoring help ensure water is used responsibly in a fragile island environment.
Conservation & Restoration
Environmental restoration is central to Rumi’s long-term vision. Ongoing efforts include weed management, revegetation and habitat protection, supporting the regeneration of native ecosystems across the island.
Responsible Tourism
Guest experiences are designed to be low-impact and respectful of the environment. We do not guarantee wildlife interactions, limit guest numbers and provide education around conservation and responsible exploration.
Local & Ethical Sourcing
Our culinary experiences prioritise local producers, regional seafood and South Australian wines, supporting surrounding communities while reducing transport impacts and celebrating local flavours.
Low-Impact Design
Rumi’s infrastructure has been designed to minimise environmental footprint, with limited clearing, off-grid architecture and a focus on blending into the natural landscape rather than dominating it.
Sustainability is not a destination, but an ongoing commitment. As Rumi on Louth continues to evolve, we remain dedicated to refining our practices, learning from the natural environment and contributing to the long-term protection of this extraordinary island.
TOURISM AUSTRALIA
Green is Our Gold
Rumi on Louth proudly aligns with Tourism Australia’s Green is Our Gold initiative, a national commitment to protecting what makes this country so unique.
Guided by principles of preserving place, respecting wildlife, embracing culture, celebrating community and taking care, this initiative reflects the responsibility we hold as custodians of Louth Island.
Our approach to sustainability is not a statement, but a practice. From operating entirely off-grid through solar and desalination systems, to the regeneration of native landscapes and protection of local wildlife, every element of the guest experience is designed with long-term impact in mind.
We invite our guests to be part of this journey, to tread lightly, connect deeply and leave with a greater appreciation for the environment they have experienced.
